چکیده

On the basis of degradation properties of Phanerochaete chroysosporium ME 446 found in white-rot fungi in respect of many organic compounds with toxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic characteristics, the physiological conditions effective for the degradation of heptachlor (1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8heptachloro-3a, 4, 7, 7a-tetrahydro-4, 7-methanoindene), an organic chlorine used in insecticides Phanerochaete chrysosporium ME were determined. The potential toxic effects of heptachlor and metabolites on mice were also investigated. For the degradation of heptachlor, the optimum pH was found to be 5, incubation period 20 days, and incubation temperature, 30C-35C, while the optimum concentrations was 50 μM. The maximum heptachlor degradation rate under optimum physiological conditions was found to be 97.30%. The LD 50 dose of heptachlor was determined, and its effects on cells in the blood of mice were investigated. The LD 50 dose was found to be 97.50 mg/kg for heptachlor. Although this dose normally produces a death rate of 50% in mice, the resultant metabolites obtained through Phanerocheate chrysosporium ME 446 treatment caused no deaths. While direct application of heptachlor produced quantitive effects in the blood cells, no significant effects of heptachlor metabolites could be detected.

This study investigated biodegradation of dibenzothiophene (DBT) in marsh soil spiked bywhite-rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Soil samples were spiked with 100 ppm DBTand incubated at 30°C in a dark chamber for 30 days. Samples were evaluated for pH, Mnperoxidaseactivity, sulfate ion concentration and growth during the tests. Results showedmaximum levels of pH, Mn-peroxidase and sulfate...

A new endosulfan-degrading fungus, Mortierella species, isolated from a soil contaminated with organochlorine pesticides

Endosulfan is a broad-spectrum cyclodiene insecticide that has been used extensively for over 30 years on a variety of crops. It is a mixture of two stereoisomers, a and b endosulfan, in a ratio of 7 : 3. Its toxicity is extremely high against fish and aquatic invertebrates, and it has increasingly been implicated in mammalian gonadal toxicity, genotoxicity and neurotoxicity; however, endosulfa...

Biosorption of Lead (II) and Zinc (II) ions by pre-treated biomass of phanerochaete chrysosporium

The biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of such metal ions from aqueous solutions. In this study, the adsorption properties of nonliving biomass of phanerochaete chrysosporium for Pb (II) and Zn (II) were investigated by the use of batch adsorption techniques. The effects of initial metal ion concentration, initial pH, biosorbent concentration, stirring speed...

Neurotoxicity of the organochlorine insecticide heptachlor to murine striatal dopaminergic pathways.

Changes in biochemical status of nerve terminals in the corpus striatum, one of the primary brain regions affected in Parkinson's disease, were studied in groups of C57BL/6 mice treated by ip injection three times over a 2-week period with 3--100 mg/kg heptachlor. On average, the maximal rate of striatal dopamine uptake increased > 2-fold in mice treated at doses of 6 mg/kg heptachlor and 1.7-f...
